From the box: Scorpions hav pincers and a long tail with a stinger. They have two eyes in the middle of the head and usually two to five more along each side. They do not see well, and depend on touch, using the long setae on their pincers. Pectines, a pair of comb-like structures underneath the last legs, are also sense organs for touch. They feed primarily at night, on insects and spiders caught with the pincers. Young scorpions ride on the mother's back until they shed their skins. They then become independent and live a solitary life. Most live in warm, dry climates, but some can be found as far north as Canada, and as far south as lower South America. The species Centruroides (southwest US and Mexico), Tityus (Brazil), and Androctonus (North Africa) are poisonous to humans.
