Mosquito Woodkit
The Mosquito Woodkit helps people to understand the anatomy and physiology of this biting insect. This kit like all Action Product Woodkits is designed with both quality and fun in mind. The sturdy wood pieces provide fun and a challenge as modelers build the woodkit for display or take it apart and put it back together again like a puzzle. The Scorpion Woodkit depicts this amazing creature in a position seemingly ready to bite. The model can be painted or decorated at the whim of the builder. Any woodkit is a fun learning experience, but the Mosquito Woodkit helps to kindle the imagination of the budding entomologist as he or she explores the world of six legged creatures. This model is recommended for ages seven and up.
From the box: Only female mosquitoes bite. The mosquito siphons blood through her poboscis, diluting it with saliva, which causes the bite to itch. Mosquitoes may also transmit diseases such as yellow fever, malaria, and encephalitis. Male mosquitoes do not bite. They eat nectar and other plant juices. The female lays her eggs in standing water, where they float in a tiny cluster. The larvae, (Wrigglers), live near the surface of the water, breathing through a tiny tube at the tip of the abdomen. Most feed on organic debris and algae, but a few eat other mosquito larvae and similar live prey. The pupae, (Tumblers), are very animated and also aquatic. Adults are primarily active from dusk till dawn. During the day they roost in shady, sheltered spots.
