Pteranodon Woodkit

Pteranodon Woodkit
The Pteranodon Woodkit is an excellent recreation of an flying reptile that sailed over the Earth during the Mesozoic Era. This sturdy woodkit is designed with both quality and fun in mind. It will provide fun and a challenge as modelers, young and old, can build the woodkit for display or take it apart and put it back together again like a puzzle. The Pteranodon woodkit looks very much the way we think of dinosaurs today, in just their bones. Any woodkit is a fun learning experience, but the dinosaur woodkits help to spark the imagination of the young paleontologist as he or she explores the world of prehistoric creatures. This model has a 20 inch wingspan, is 13 inches long, and has a height of 6.5 inches. Recommended for ages seven and up. But it can be fun for an advanced five year old, perhaps with a bit of help from Dad or Mom.

Pteranodon means "toothless wing" because it was a flying reptile with no teeth but a beak. It was not an actual dinosaur. In the Cretaceous period it soared throught the skies. It was a hunter and a fisher. It made its home near the ancient sea that once covered part of the North American continent. It is thought that the bony crest on the back of its head served to counterbalance its long beak. It could also have also been used as a rudder for steering in flight.
